Saturday, Aug. 29th 2009Menstruation is considered as a natural phenomenon which usually occurs in the girls during the stage of adolescence which starts by the age of 12 years. Menstruation thus reflects the start of the puberty period in the females. With the very occurrence of menstruation, the adolescent girls experience different changes which occur in them, both physical and psychological. Menstruation is a normal cycle which lasts for a number of 3 to 5 days which occurs after a length of 28 days in the normal span.
Various factors can bring about irregularity in the menstruation cycle. Such irregularity is especially reported during the early adolescence phase. That is because the body takes time to adjust to the new hormonal forces. Some of the other determining elements in the subsequent stages are psychological stress like a change in ties, or nervousness or problems in adjustments as it happens when one joins a new profession or institution or even dietary habits that lead to alteration in weight.
During the menstrual cycle, the female body is going to saturate the blood supply in the vaginal area to help with the menstrual cycle, and as a result, necessary minerals will not be transported in the amount needed by the other body organs and members. These minerals that are lodged in the vaginal area during the menstruation will come out in bulk in the “white” stage (leukorrheac discharge). Yes, that white discharge commonly referred to as “leucorrhea,” is full of nutrition (that nutrition which did not make the grade doing the menstrual cycle).
If you’ve been diagnosed with PCOS and are trying to become pregnant, your doctor may prescribe you a medicine which will induce ovulation. Overweight PCOS sufferers improve their chances of becoming pregnant by losing weight. If elevated insulin levels are to blame for your PCOS, you may be prescribed medicine which will lower your insulin levels. This will make you ovulate regularly and, in turn, regulate your menstrual cycle and increase your chances of becoming pregnant.
PCOS is caused by an elevated level of male hormones called androgenic hormones, especially testosterone. These are created by the ovaries but the exact cause of this is as yet unknown. Along with infertility and acne, weight gain, ovarian cysts, insulin resistance, strokes and many other problems can occur as a direct result of PCOS which is a frightening statistic for 10% of the world population!
Asafetida is known to increase the secretion of the female hormone, progesterone. Thus it facilitates menstruation. Using asafetida gum fried in ghee and mixed with goat’s milk and a spoonful of honey for a month can reduce the pains during menstruation and also make the flow reduced.
The white discharge is considered healthy or normal due to its high mineral content and non-smelly or foul odor, whereas and in contrast to an irritating, pruritic, copious, foul-smelling green or yellow discharge, which indicates vaginal or uterine infection or other pathogenic conditions of gynecologic origin.
Some common causes of heavy menstruation include uterine fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, hormonal imbalances and polyp growths on the walls of the uterus. Non-typical causes are Von Willebrand disease which is an inherited coagulation disorder, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), liver cirrhosis, lupus, Intrauterine Device (IUD) birth control and diabetes.
Diet and Nutrition A low-fat diet made up largely of vegetables, fruits, and starches can lower estrogen levels significantly. Foods rich in bioflavonoids with vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, grapes, apricots, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, cherries, and rosehips, can strengthen blood vessels.
